This publication presents Doig as an artist with a conceptual practice, a visual thinker who is not only fascinated by the history of painting but also the process of painting itself. The large-format paintings and works on paper reproduced in this volume, selected from Doig's entire career, allow the viewer to share his creative passion and his enthusiasm for the power of painting.
Born in Edinburgh in 1959, Peter Doig was raised in Canada and spent two decades in London before moving to Trinidad. Doig graduated from St. Martin's School of Art in 1983 and the Chelsea School of Art in 1990. Hovering between abstraction and figuration and rendered in a rich, sometimes anti-naturalistic color palette, Doig's sumptuous paintings are loved by both critics and collectors alike. Doig was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994 and his work was included in the 2006 Whitney Biennial. The artist made headlines in February 2013 when his painting "The Architect's Home in the Ravine" sold for $12,000,000 at a London auction, breaking his previous record.

Great book, awesome paintings

First of all, thanks to Amazon for an excellent service.. I live in Ecuador (South America) and don't have too much chances to get good contemporary art books. This book gives the opportunity to see many of Doig's first works and the recent ones. The buyer won't feel dissapointed. You can get to see the images on a good size, the color reproduction is acceptable. Doig's paintings does not only show a lot of his imagination but also an awesome technique. It is not boring at all to contemplate the million details he makes all over the canvas. Great use of the palette. Excellent resource for painters esentially because in this type of work you get to understand that you have to get over your fears or to take advantage of your mistakes. Doig's paintings give you a real sense of freedom and the love of the artist for his job.

A superb introduction to a superb artist, this generous volume reproduces Peter Doig's work in rich, detailed color, inviting the reader to simply contemplate each painting at length. What at first seems relatively simple, if always beautiful, soon reveals layer upon layer of depth. These images have the quality of eternally fresh memories, which contain far more than what's initially seen on the surface. This is a shimmering & deeply individual vision of the world -- most highly recommended!

I think the content is very helpful. Lots of good information.

Only suggestion...my storage box the cards came in was smashed on one end. I was able to tape it up so it will hold the cards now. I would suggest shipping in a box instead of a padded envelope. Other then that they are great, and the seller had them to me in no time. Very fast delivery.

Love these. One thing

Love these. One thing... If you are a medical or np student, these cards are way below the level that you will need to understand patho. They are fun and easy, and will help as a refresher before an exam. But be warned, you will need flash cards geared to med students, not nurses, if you want to actually learn something from them. These are great for nursing students studying for exams I'm sure. Undergraduate level.

There are many different versions of this classic book available for download here on amazon. As a matter of fact I had purchased a different kindle version of this book and was about 25% of the way through it when I came across this version. I was intrigued by the offer of 'included audio files' for each chapter, so I thought 'what the heck' and spent the .99 to download this version as well. Well, WOW, I'm glad I did! I REALLY enjoy reading the chapter and then listening to that same chapter being read to me by Shawn Penning ... who has one of the nicest voices I've yet to hear read to me (and I listen to 'lots' of audiobooks!). I wish he could read my entire collection to me. :-) Anyway, this particular kindle book/audio is excellent and I intend on 'gifting' this product to quite a few of my friends.

When I was reading through some of the other reviewers comments I noticed that some had remarked that there were problems with the formatting. I read my kindle books on my laptop, my desktop, and on my iPhone. I have opened this book on all three and the formatting is perfect ... so perhaps if there was a problem originally, it has since been corrected.

For fellow customers who might need a little help with the audio files:
If you want to download/save all of the audio files to your computer, do this:
1) find your way to the very END of the book (that is where you will find the links to the audio files)
2) click the 1st link (eg.:Think And Grow Rich Chap 1 HQ )... this will cause a browser window to open and a little audio player app will appear in the middle of the screen and the mp3 should begin to play. Place your cursor over top of the area with the long horizontal bar with the dot that moves to the right as the audio plays *right-click* your mouse. You should see the option: Save as... Click that and save the file to your computer. Then go back to your kindle book, click the next link and repeat the steps until you have saved all of the audio files.

Yes this is the Original edition and is worthy of five stars for the content, there is no denying or disputing that. However, my beef is with the format of this version. I took a picture so you can see what i am referring to. The book could have been reduced to half it's size in volume and thickness due to the way the Napolean Hill foundation formatted this book. It is off centered where there is about an inch of blank space on top, 2 inches of blank space from left and bottom. The words go in too deep into the center of page and results in an awkward and annoying read. Taking these facts into consideration, you are basically getting a mass market paperback book. After a little more research i came across this edition: ISBN 1593302002. It is also the original edition from 1937 but also contains extensive footnotes, endnotes, appendices, and an index. It is a much better physical book overall in size and feel as well as better fonts, format, and quality of paper. I would recommend that version over this one.
Another issue is with the Kindle version of this edition by the Napoleon Hill foundation. Compared to any other e-book, the font is light with hardly any contrast whatsoever. Text is light gray instead of black which makes it very diffcult to read, you can see for yourself by sampling the book to your Kindle before purchasing which I recommend anyone do before making any e-book purchase. The Napoleon Hill foundation needs to fix this.

A pioneer in the field still standing strong

I don't make it a habit to read self-help books, but the off-color fitness guru Matt Furey has made a killing on selling a program based off of Maltz's work, and most other "motivational speakers" usually bend a knee in respect to Maltz as a forerunner. So I picked up a cheap used copy and read it cover to cover. The only question I have left is why anyone would bother with any of the other crap. This book effectively condenses the entirety of the self-help field. As far as I can tell, this is as good as it gets by the standards of the genre, is enjoyably accessible to a general audience, and has weathered time's attack on its relevance stunningly well.

Firstly, Maltz had the raw clinical experience necessary to write this kind of book. As a crackerjack plastic surgeon he saw immediately and firsthand the life-changing or life-stalling power of self-image at work in the faces of his patients. (And anyone who scoffs at unorthodox contributors to a research field ought to know that Albert Einstein was working for the Swiss patent office when he submitted the Theory of Special Relativity.) Yet Maltz also admits where exactly the limits of his knowledge lie rather than try to convince the reader of his omniscience.

Secondly, Maltz was receptive to many fundamental tenets of psychology and philosophy and works them into Psycho Cybernetics clearly and without contradiction. Nor does he try to repackage ancient metaphysical hokum with inane and feeble examples.

Thirdly, there are no workshops, special reports, live phone help, or products to buy. (Though I cannot speak for the organization that has cropped up around Maltz's name.) All pretense and exaggeration for marketing purposes seem absent from his book.

Maltz was definitive and unequivocal in his ideas, quick to set a standard and stick to it. He took seriously some very fundamental issues of life and makes clear statements. This book rises high above the haphazard pop philosophy/ethics smeared all over mass media which are either shallow and weak or imperiously stupid. Maltz simply faced the truth of his own convictions. Psycho Cybernetics by no means outlines life management skills as an exact science, but its frank suggestions are intellectually compelling. Overall, the book is worthwhile because Maltz' honest and non-condescending style at least earns your respect, if not your belief.

Finally - a book that makes SENSE

Napoleon Hill founded the laws of success, Dale Carnegie taught us how to win friends and Maxwell Maltz taught us how to live it all. This book has in my opinion, what 99.9% of books will forever lack - and that's common sense. There is no need for hype, Maltz speaks the truth which is refreshing in this day and age. He teaches (and in my opinion was the first to teach) the art of compassion, self- respect, relaxation, forgiveness and the art of being a professional human being. In this book you will learn that it doesn't matter how many success principles you know, that if you really want to change you must do so through the self-image -the foundation for all success. It is a book filled with wisdom, humor and hope. So if you want to change and live a better life overall, then buy this book. Take a knife and cut through the diddle daddle and motivation found in those other so-called self-help books. After all, how many other authors have 33 million copies in print over a 40 year life span? BUY IT!

Psycho-Cybernetics is my Bible!

I really love this book...I have never read a book that contained such positive wisdom and helpful insights on how to be a successful person. Dr. Maltz was a plastic surgeon and a humanitarian, who truly cared about helping people. He had plenty of money being one of the few plastic surgeons of his day--He unselfishly wrote this book from center of his heart. I can't even think about it without getting teary-eyed! His principles are based on some of his psychological experiences as a plastic surgeon. He compared a low self-esteem as being similar to the facial flaws of his plastic surgery patients, and how you can fix your self-esteem to become a better you. He offers useful advice on how to avoid letting your negative thoughts make you a failure. He suggests how one's attitude alone can influence his/her success-level. He also has ideas on how to not let the hateful, hurtful things people say keep you from the success you deserve. His book healed me, and taught me that I have control over my life and destiny. Dr. Maltz passed away some time ago, but his compassion for countless others lives on.

Unique in its coverage, Urban Economics and Real Estate allows an instructor to teach separate courses in either urban economics or urban real estate, or a blend of the two topics. About the Author
John F. McDonald is currently at Roosevelt University, Chicago, as the Gerald W. Fogelson Distinguished Chair in R.E. John McDonald was Emeritus Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University. At UIC he has served as Professor of Economics and Finance, Founding Director of the Center for Urban Real Estate, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, and Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration. Other positions held include Research Director at NCI Research, and Adjunct Professor of Economics in the Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago. Well known for his research in urban economics and real estate, he is listed in Who's Who in Economics and is author of seven books. He currently serves as editor of the Journal of Real Estate Literature.

Daniel P. McMillen is a professor of economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has held an appointment at IGPA since 2002. His research interests are urban economics, real estate, and applied econometrics. He is editor of the journal Regional and Urban Economics, and has served on the editorial boards of five other journals. In 1998 and 1999 he served as the chair of the Department of Economics at Tulane University. In 1998, he was a research fellow for the Center for Urban Real Estate and Land Economics at the University of British Columbia. He received his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1987.

Great approachable book for undergraduate teaching

Nice book for undergraduate teaching. Full of intuitions and examples. The part on the monocentric model and gradients, the structure of cities is particularly interesting.

I believe this is a very nice book. I haven't found or read any others like this, except for the book Economic Geography I beleive, which is the one from Princeton University Press with the brigde on the cover. I have only gone through the first several chapters of that one, and it is almost totally theoretical and mathematical and goes over proofs and developing mathematical models like you would see in a calculus course. This book is actually readable like a book, not just developing mathematical models to simulate the economic principles. This book requires algebra with a only little bit of calculus I beleive.
This book is very good and explains the familiar topics in this field such as trade offs in distance, estimating population growth etc, but I have only gone through the first 3 chapters so far, so haven't really begun. I have skimmed through though and I would definately recommend it for budding real estate pros, and investors like me. Plus, it has homework problems at the end of the chapters so you can learn the material.

First, the condition of this book was exactly as described and the packaging was good, so the purchase, shipping and delivery were excellent.
